Development Roadmap

RODS development effort is organized into seven functional areas--overall, data collection, classification (NLP), database and data warehousing, outbreak detection algorithms, data access, services and user interfaces. Each functional area has a coordinator for the open source project and there is an overall coordinator responsible for the architecture, overall integration of components, and overall quality of the JAVA source code. These coordinators can be found in the people and collaborators page.

Since the inception of RODS, we've received many suggestions on how to improve the system. These suggestions form the basis for the RODS Open Source Development Roadmap.

OVERALL ROADMAP

  • Ensure compatibility with a wide range of underlying operating systems, hardware, and application servers

DATA COLLECTION ROADMAP

  • Handle XML Data

CLASSIFICATION (NLP) ROADMAP

  • Keyword Classifier
  • ICD-9 Classifier
  • Semantic/Syntactic NLP Classifier
  • Distributed Classifier

DATABASE AND DATA WAREHOUSING ROADMAP

  • Ensure compatibility with a wide range of underlying databases.

OUTBREAK DETECTION ALGORITHMS ROADMAP

  • Develop new outbreak detection algorithms
  • Incorporate existing outbreak detection algorithms
    • Incorporate external statistical packages such as R and SAS

SERVICES ROADMAP

  • Create service interfaces to all functions.

USER INTERFACE ROADMAP

  • Continue to incorporate features requested by users
